a visual homage to Black Flag’s iconic flyers and Raymond Pettibon’s uncompromising imagery.

The motifs collected here date from the early hardcore era of the early 1980s. Raymond Pettibon, brother of Black Flag guitarist Greg Ginn, not only shaped the band’s visual appearance, but also designed the legendary four-bar logo.

His flyers are hand-drawn, black and white, often photocopied in DIY , raw, direct, and deliberately provocative. Typical features include scratchy lines, dark humor, noir aesthetics, violent motifs, horror elements, and ironic to nihilistic commentary on American society.

The works promoted legendary shows—such as the 1981 show at the Peppermint Lounge—and became the visual trademark of SST Records. The book is aimed at collectors, hardcore fans, and lovers of DIY punk graphics and underground culture. A compact, visual journey through time to the era of early hardcore.
